Dangerous Prescription Drugs

Beware of Dangerous Prescription Drugs
"Modern medicine has done wonderful things to improve the quality of our lives. Yet horrible suffering results, when defective products or medications cause unintended consequences,” states Long Island attorney, Rudolph Migliore.

The Commack, NY law firm of Rudolph F. X. Migliore, P.C. has recently begun taking cases related to two dangerous prescription medications, Reglan and Fosamax.
Reglan (metoclopramide) - is a prescription drug that came on the market in generic form in 1982 and is also sold in the U.S. under generic names such as, Pylomid, Primperan, Gastrosil, Maxeran, Metlazel, Dibertil, Maxolon, Metoclopramide, Primperan, Plasil and other names. Doctors prescribe the drug to treat a variety of gastro-intestinal maladies, from acid reflux, nausea and vomiting due to surgery and cancer chemotherapy to gastroparesis.
Despite the many studies showing that Reglan was associated with a neurological disorder, tardive dyskinesia, the drug's manufacturers did not warn of it on the label until 2004 and did not add the Black Box warning until February 2009.
Tardive dyskinesia causes uncontrollable, repetitive movements of the body, such as grimacing, lip smacking, eye blinking or rapid leg and arm movements. The symptoms are rarely reversible and there is no known treatment.

Further investigation into Reglan has determined that patients, including infants and children, and the elderly, face significant risk of developing tardive dyskinesia. The risk is especially associated with those who have been on the drug for a long time, sometimes after a few dosages and even after the patient stopped taking the drug.

Fosamax – is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, steroid-induced osteoporosis in men and other bone diseases. Investigation into Fosamax-related femur fractures determined that women and men who took the bisphosphonate drug face significant risk of a spontaneous femur fracture injury. These atypical hip/thigh fractures occur in minor or "low impact" falls from a standing height or less, as opposed to a traumatic accident or injury.

The FDA and other independent research studies indicate that femur fracture patients have reported experiencing severe pain of the joints, muscles and/or bones for periods of weeks to months before a complete fracture occurred.
