Dangerous Drugs: Xarelto

Xarelto is a prescription drug, which is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary) intended to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem.

Unfortunately, the drug has been found to have similar bleeding risks as imposed by Pradaxa, causing many patients to suffer from extreme side effects. Many lawsuits have been filed against the makers of Xarelto for failing to warn patients and doctors about the dangerous side effects; the manufacturers of Xarelto have also been accused of producing a defective product because they released Xarelto without an antidote to its effects.

We have begun to investigate cases involving patients who were prescribed Xarelto and have suffered from a variety of symptoms including: unexpected bleeding or bleeding that lasts a long time; unusual bleeding from the gums; pain, swelling, or new drainage at wound sites; menstrual bleeding that is heavier than normal or vaginal bleeding; bleeding that is severe or you cannot control; nose bleeds that happen often; red, pink or brown urine; cough up blood or blood clots; vomit blood or your vomit looks like “coffee grounds”; bright red or black stools (looks like tar); headaches; or feeling dizzy or weak.

If you or a loved one has been prescribed Xarelto and have suffered from any of these major side effects, please contact our law firm at (631) 543-3663.
