Zofran Litigation Continues to Build

A recent article entitled “More Zofran Lawsuits Filed As MDL Confirmed” was published by Heidi Turner on lavwyersandsettlements.com this past Saturday. The article speaks of the various proceedings that have gone on during the month of October in terms of Zoran cases across the nation. Turner also states that she anticipates the amount of cases being filed to increase in coming months.

Zofran, otherwise known as ondansetron, is a prescription used to reduce morning sickness during pregnancy. The drug has been found to lead to babies being born with major birth defects, and has since been recalled. Some of these defects include heart and kidney malformations, cleft lip, cleft palate, club foot, and skull deformities.

Since consumers learned of this unfortunate correlation, those who used Zofran during pregnancy are seeking compensation for their suffering. The main claim against the drug’s manufacturer is that those who used it were not properly warned about the risks involved. They believe that GlaxoSmithKline instead mislead the public.

Claims have been consolidated into a multi district litigation for pretrial proceedings, and as of October 15th there are 15 suits. US District Judge Dennis Saylor is responsible for this case in MDL-2657. There is still time for more cases to be filed, and it is likely that this will occur.
